Jean-Paul Courtens and Jody Bolluyt run Roxbury Farm in Kinderhook, NY where they raise Animal Welfare Approved pigs and sheep. They also run a successful vegetable CSA with 17 locations in New York State including four New York City distribution sites.

Caleamont Farm, run by farmer Brud McCabe in Danville, Vermont, is home to Animal Welfare Approved Belted Galloway beef cattle and laying hens.

Willow Knoll Farm, located in upstate NY, was an active small dairy in the 1960’s when the barn burned down. When Kellie and Bruce Maitland purchased the 131 acres, they began to put in motion a plan to bring the land back to a productive balanced farm. Abandoned meadows were reclaimed back to good hay land, wetlands were fenced off to keep cattle from contaminating the local watershed, and suitable lands were cleared and fenced for pastures.

Ilyssa Berg and Javier Flores raise Animal Welfare Approved dairy goats on Painted Goat Farm in Garrattsville, NY. Ilyssa is originally from the NYC metropolitan area and holds a degree in ecological anthropology, while Javier hails from Cuellaje, Ecuador- a farming region high in the Andes Mountains. Their herd of roughly 80 goats- Nubians, Alpines, and LaManchas- graze on over 100 acres of rolling hills in upstate New York, and produce milk from which Ilyssa and Javier make high quality, natural, fresh and aged cheeses.

Lee and Georgia Ranney and their cattle and egg laying hens are living the good life on Kinderhook Farm in Valatie, New York. “When we first started with the farm,” Lee says, “there was minimal fencing and pasture water, so we knew we had our work cut out for us to move to an intensive rotational grazing system. It’s been five years of hard work, putting up miles of fencing and placing water systems but it’s all been worth it. We really wanted to get the animals outside on pasture where they belong.”

Despite the pouring rain at NYC’s Union Square Greenmarket, customer after customer stopped by to ask Dan Gibson from Grazin’ Angus Acres detailed questions about how he raises his animals. His new status as the first Animal Welfare Approved farmer in Greenmarket is something he’s very proud of and it shows in his conversations. Dan said he gets these questions all the time, but that’s why he loves having a farmstand at Greenmarket.

Kilmarnock Farm, located in central New York State, was established by Mark Babilonia and Cheryl Loe in 2006. They reclaimed and returned to production a small piece of land—formerly part of a very large diversified farming operation—in an area of Otsego County where dairy was king until the mid-20th century

Simply Grazin’ Organic Farm (in New Jersey and Virginia) is a family owned and operated farm that believes in allowing animals to do exactly what God intended them to do—graze peacefully and grow naturally—with minimal interference from the farmers. The farm is run by Mark, Lynne, Dylan, Taylor & Stacie Faille. In addition, they have numerous family members, including uncles, cousins, nephews, & nieces that lend a helping hand on a daily and seasonal basis. They have been farming for approximately 12 years and were committed to grass-based, organic farming before it was “in.”

High Lonesome Farm is an Animal Welfare Approved farm situated in the beautiful rolling hills of south central New York, raising 100% grassfed, purebred Angus beef and selling fully processed “freezer beef” directly from the farm in packages comprised of wholes, halves or quarters (split halves).
