Organic Pastures – Fresno, CA
January 26, 2010 on 11:02 am | By Animal Welfare Approved in West 1 CommentOrganic Pastures is a fourth generation, family owned and operated, vertically integrated organic farming operation. Their Grade A dairy is 100% organic and 100% pasture-based. Mark, Aaron, and Kaleigh McAfee, who work respectively as Founder and CEO, Operations Manager, and Marketing Manager, value the high quality of milk that comes from a humanely managed herd. Organic Pastures cows are never confined to feedlots and always graze freely on abundant grass pastures.
The McAfees never give their cows hormones, GMOs, antibiotics or other synthetic chemicals. They also decided that responsible herd management meant only using bull breeding, in place of artificial insemination by a veterinarian. To promote the health and vitality of their cows they prioritize genetic diversity, and keep a high percentage of Jersey, Guernsey, Normandy, Brown Swiss and Holstein cows in their herd. These European breeds are better adapted to graze the pastures than traditional Holstein cows, and make more butterfat so their milk is extra creamy. At Organic Pastures every cow has a name and a place in the heart of the family and employees, a relationship built through constant care and concern for the herd’s well-being.
All of the milk from the dairy is processed on site at the Organic Pastures farm creamery. In addition to producing raw, organic milk they make and sell value-added products including cream, butter, and cheese. These products are distributed by their own fleet of 13 trucks to over 300 retail locations in California, as well as 10 farmers markets. They are proud to have an 8 year track record of zero pathogens while never having to pasteurize, homogenize or otherwise denature their fresh milk. Organic Pastures offers free farm tours 7 days a week. Visit www.organicpastures.com for more information or call 877-RAW-MILK. AWA rocks. I just found Organic Pastures Raw Milk at Rainbow Grocery Co-op in San Francisco and it is delicious. I’ve never had raw milk before, but was excited to find an AWA product to try. I’ve emailed Rainbow to ask them to get some of your other products on the shelves. Great job. Yum. Thanks.
