With the help of their two sons and Lee’’s brother Robbie, the couple run a diverse pasture-based livestock and vegetable operation. Their offerings include pork, beef, chicken, eggs and vegetables marketed through their local farmers markets, restaurants and an area buying club. Wild Turkey Farms is run on land that has been in the Menius family for over a century. The couple chose Berkshire pork because of its outstanding culinary reputation; they tout it as”the other red meat.” A recipient of the Animal Welfare Approved 2008 Good Husbandry Grants, Wild Turkey Farms is building a Mobile Processing Unit for shared usage among Animal Welfare Approved farmers.
On attaining Animal Welfare Approved certification Lee said, “It’s a really good tool for me,” adding,”It gives me a solid proof of what I’m doing – they don’t just give this to anybody”
