Brook-Lin Jerseys – Sadieville, KY
June 25, 2008 on 5:51 pm | By Animal Welfare Approved in Southeast No CommentsTrue to her farm name, Linda Stone raises Jersey cows in Sadieville, Kentucky. Brook-Lin Jerseys dairy was the first raw milk farm in Kentucky to be accredited by Animal Welfare Approved. Linda Stone started Brook-Lin Jerseys nearly 30 years ago, but only recently has there been a high demand for her milk.
Linda uses her animal husbandry degree in animal agriculture and dairy science and also her previous work as a veterinary technician to ensure that her cows are as healthy and comfortable as possible. When describing her outdoor milking process she said, “I call the girls, the girls come back to the patio for milking and then they turn right back around again.” She invites her customers to visit the farm to see the milking, and they enjoy letting their children get a better understanding of how farming works.
According to Linda, Kentucky has great weather for dairy cows that allows them to comfortably be outside all the time. On deciding to become accredited, Linda said, “Animal Welfare Approved is the best [organization] working for the dairy cows. I greatly admire Animal Welfare Approved for taking [them on].”
